Václav Vonášek studied with František Herman in Prague, and pursued his training in London. Since 2006 he has been a member of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. He has become known as a champion of bassoon as a solo instrument, and performer of, among other works, transcriptions of J.S. Bach´s cello suites for solo bassoon. Laureate of the 2002 Prague Spring Competition (2nd prize), IDRS Melbourne 2004 (1st prize), Lódź 2005 (1st prize), Markneukirchen 2006 (3rd prize), ARD Munich 2008 (3rd prize), and Prague Spring 2009 (1st prize).
