Katta / Jiří Pavlica & Hradišťan
“Growing of one´s own essence…” – from roots to present time.
Katta – organ, vocal
Jiří Pavlica & Hradišťan – crossover
The creative encounter of the singular organ player, Katta, and Jiří Pavlica´s band, Hradišťan, gave rise to a project drawing inspiration from the old Slavic, and possibly also Celtic, roots of our music and culture. Her acquaintance with he sonic properties of Old Slavonic, the language of the first Christian mission to these lands, and of the first Slavonic liturgy (as well as, much later on, of Janáček´s Glagolitic Mass), awakened in Katta an urge to compose an organ cycle, combining this particular source of inspiration with echoes of medieval Latin versions of Stabat Mater and Veni, Sancte Spiritus.
Hradišťan, an ensemble that set out on its path long ago as the archetypal Moravian cimbalom band, has since the evolved into a formation that has reached far beyond the borders of the folklore genre, guided by its leader, Jiří Pavlica, on the trail of original creations and often unexpected artistic partnerships.
